MORLAND MIXITE CAPITALE

MORLAND MIXITE CAPITALE

Between Bastille’s mix of Haussmann and modern buildings and Le Marais’s upscale private homes, the old Cité Administrative of Paris looks a bit out of place. Locals and visitors alike have long walked past this imposing Brutalist relic from the 1960s. The symbol of an outdated style? David Chipperfield and CALQ Architecture would beg to differ. They saw the complex as a giant playing field.

The buildings’ open spaces and clean lines sparked the creativity of this English architect and the Parisian agency. Together, they masterminded the Morland Mixité Capitale project, winner of the “Réinventer Paris” competition. The development of offices, residences, shops, a food market, swimming pool, gym, leafy terraces and local services have completely transformed this city-centre block. And at the heart of this hip new neighbourhood, the landmark central tower and its Sixties-era revolutionary spirit live on. From the heights of its 16 glassy floors dominating the riverbank, SO/ Paris hotel is the shining new beacon of avant-garde Paris.
